Search function ignore important punctuation symbol

I want to seach for "2.4 inch". But the search result shows the pages containing "2", "4" and "inch". While I'm searching for pages containing "2.4" and "inch". It's obvious that the search ignores the punctuation symbol "." ( dot).
How to slove the problem? Please help. Thanks in advanced!
