Album Database question

Hello,
What a wonderful CMS. Simple is the perfect word for it, thanks devteam for creating and maintaining it!
Ive got a question about Categories in Album. I've checked the database, but I could not find any reference about the categories the images are stored under.
I wanted to make a select-box with all categories in it, and once the visitor selects a category, the selected photo's are displayed, like, for example, here:
http://www.rueb.nl/?page=collectie
There's a dropdown menu where the painter can be selected, and I'd like that on my site as well. I know how to code this, but I couldn't find any reference between stored photos and the categories they are under... Am I missing something here? Appreciate your feedback,
