Dear Sir/Madam,
I have managed to reach step three but have failed to processed from there. Whenever i try, it says as follows below;
Could not connect to the database. Verify that username and password are correct, and that the user has access to the given database.
So, what username name/password do i have to use ? is it the one for my Whole website or the one i have created with CMS made simple?
I will be so glad to hear from you in the near future
Ronny

CMSMS need a mysql database.
This is something with your webspace.
Your provider can tell you the datas you need or if you have an account managment, you can see it there.

I have the same message (Could not connect to the database. Verify that username and password are correct, and that the user has access to the given database.), but I'm running local, what should I do?

You should give the access data to your database. Nobody is able to say what your access data is. If you have made a local installation of WAMP, XAMP or similar, try these settings:
Code: Select all
DB-Server: localhost
DB-User: root
DB-Passwort: (leave it empty!)
DB-Name: (the name of database you have created)
To create a database try
http://localhost/phpmyadmin

Ronny,
You need to create the database yourself prior to starting the installation of the cms, CMSMS will not do it for you. Your hosting provider will have given you access to a control panel, e.g. Cpanel, through which you can create databases and users. You need to log in to the host's control panel (contact them if you don't know how) and create a MySQL database and an admin user for it.
After you've done that, take a note of the details (database name and database owner password) and then rerun your installation.

Yeah, it's me who got the problem, I just didn't want to clutter the forum with another thread as the error message is the same.
I have created the database following these instructions
http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php ... Windows_PC
but still cannot access, don't understand why and getting frustraded by the hour...

Alistair, this is nothing to get frustrated. Imagine, you try to login in your forum account and forum says that username or password is wrong. What does it mean? It means that you enter false password or username. Nothing else. You can try it again and again, but it will not work, because forum is just a piece of programm that compare the data entered with data stored. If they do not match, you get the error.
The same applies to the databases. Access to database is made from 4 parts:
DB user, DB password, DB server and DB name. If any of this information is wrong, you will get the message that you cannot access. Not because the database is evil
1. Check, your database still running. Can you access it through
http://localhost/phpmyadmin?
2. Doublecheck the credentials. Pay attention to uppercase and lowercase letters. If you have named your database CMS, you should enter CMS (Uppercase) during installation.

the database is "cms" and the user is root who's got all the privileges as you can see, I know for sure what the password is since I always use the same one! I just couldn't have got it wrong...
I'm on the verge of giving up

If you have used the instruction above then you have not yet any database password, you should leave the field empty unless you have actually changed it in MySQL configuration.
By the way, your screenshot does not show WHAT the password of the root is, but IF the password is required.

if I leave the two password fields empty it just tells me to fill them, i know i'm an idiot on these things but i just wonder why it's all so bloody complicated

There are no "two password fields" (
http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php ... seinfo.png) There is only one. What installation step do you mean exactly?

Okay, I'm not totally dumb, I know the password is one, but I don't think the password is the problem... bof...
I followed step by step these instructions
http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php ... Windows_PC
(except that I didn't use wampserve but I used xampp)
I tried Joomla for a while and I think it's very unfriendly and difficult, and I SOOOOOO wanted to try this as it might just be a bit easier, but if I can't even install it....

If you would like to get help in this forum you should describe your problem step by step. In one post you say:
Alistair wrote:

In another
Alistair wrote:

So, how can someone help you if you do not even say what installation step you are on? Make a screenshot of the what you see along with the error message you get.
By the way, if the installation of CMS Made Simple would be "so bloody complicated", believe that nobody would use it.

I think the step is mentioned in the title thread, I'm stuck at step three.
As regards the passwords I said that the fields are two (as usual, the second is a confirmation field), see the first snapshot.
Then, once filled it in with my username and the same password repeated twice (if I don't write a password as I said I don't go anywhere), I get the message error I wrote a few posts ago.
