Problems adding News - Can ANYONE help please! I'm at my wit's end!

I seem to have a problem with my news module... in the fact that I add news, click the submit button and it doesn't actually add.

I can edit existing articles, however all of a sudden it's stopped adding new ones... It did work once. Not sure exactly when it stopped, as my primary news adder hasn't been doing it for a while, as he's not had a net connection.

Important info :

CMSMS 0.13 "Canary"
News 2.0.3

Thanks in advance for ANY suggestions!

I have just upgraded to CMSMS 1.0.8 "Kona" and News 2.2, but am still getting this problem... I add news like normal, but it just doesn't actually add...

I was hoping the upgrade would fix the issue but now I'm stumped. :(

Right... latest update...

I have 2 sites running the same version of CMSMS (1.0.8 ) and the same version of news (2.3.0.1) on the same server... i.e. the server settings will be the same etc...

I have taken the entire News files from the working website and deleted and replaced the ones on the one where the news won't add... still nothing. Therefore we can deduce that it's not a corrupt file.

I have checked the database, and it's actually not beeing added there, so it is a php problem... it's not being written in the first place. I am adding the news, it is telling me it's been added, but it's not getting there...

So.... what else can I check?

A while ago my document root changed from /home3/shb3_150/ to /home/shb3_150/ however I have looked through config.php and changed ALL the relevant paths... I have checked it about 5 times! Is there anwhere else that this path could need to be changed, or anything else that could be affecting this?...

Next update... Now I have no idea what to do next, as I have reached the end of my deliberations as to what the problem might be...

I have re-uploaded the INSTALL file and re-installed the whole CMSMS (apart from overwriting the database bit) and it's still not working... I even made sure the document root said home/shb3_150_1/... so that the config file was DEFINITELY written correctly...

What is going on...? At one point I could add news no problem... and all of a sudden it's decided not to add. It say it's added after I press submit, so why is it not?

Please... pretty please! Someone put me out of my misery... short of wiping the site and rebuilding it from scratch, I've now drawn a blank.

Hmm, maybe there's something wrong with database ... have you tried to deinstall and reinstall module?

Hmm, frustrating problem. I'd a problem with News too. Mine had to do with status-button inside News. I (admin rights) saw this button and could place news, however the editor of the side (other rights and user login) could not. I found a post where Elijah explains how to set the proper rights by adding some code to one of the news php files. Hope this helps.

How can I do this without losing ALL the existing News?

You have to create a database dump with phpmyadmin or similar software so you can restore it.

What... for the WHOLE database, or can I just do selected tables? If so... which?

I would assume that if I resored the tables afterwards, that that would completely defeat the object of un-installing/re-installing in the first place, as the same data would then be back in the database...

Good news! Uninstalled News... reinstalled the news 2.2 that comes with CMSMS 1.0.8 first... it worked!... upgraded to News 2.3.0.1.... still worked!.... restored all my articles to the database without probs... still worked!

I can now add news. Thanks folks! I have absolutely NO idea why it stopped working in the first place... but at least it's fixed now.

Ta!

Mystery solved: Why new News posts won't show up in News module

I think I may know why. If you're reading this because you're new News posts are not showing up, hopefully I can save you some frustration with a very easy fix.

I just went through a couple hours of trying to figure out this same scenario.  Upgrading, downgrading, reinstalling...all to no avail, existing news posts showed up and could be updated but new posts would now show up on the site even though they were there in the admin panel...tried module versions 2.2 and 2.3

I did notice a clue that wasn't mentioned in this thread...new News posts were showing up in the admin panel as drafts, and the old button that would allow me to classify a news item as draft or published was missing. I thought the reason the published-draft toggle was not showing up was because of some sort of corruption in the module or CMSMS structure.

The particular site I was having this issue with started out at .13 and has been upgraded along the way to 1.0.8. ... somewhere along the way a new permission got added: "Approve News For Frontend Display"

You have to grant your news editors this permission otherwise the posts will default to draft when created and thus not be seen externally.
This draft status is not obvious to the users and even if they do notice this there will not be any option for them to change the posts out of draft status.

Hope this helps somebody.

I had a sort of problem like this.

I can add/edit/delete articles like a charm. I can make categories and everything is working like it supposed to... on the backend.
On the frontend however new articles are not showing up. They are on the news-content-page-preview.
The only article i can see is the default article on installation. I checked the database and i can't see any reason why the should not appear. All articles are 'published' and i can't see any fields who would mean trouble.

By going trough the sql i found a problem with the date. When an article is posted, the date is correctly entered. When an is requested the data is one hour behind. I guess it has something to do with the dateoffset for when you are in another timerange than your server. (with is weird in my case because my server is right next to me, but maybe i did some settings wrong).

Anyhow, for now (development) i have to live with an one hour delay. If i have the same problem on the final server and there's no fix yet i'll go and see if i can fix the problem in general.
