Best way to go about things?

Hi all, I just installed CMS Made Simple, it was a breeze (bravo on the easy install).
I just have a couple questions before I get started too much into customizing the CMS.
My install can be viewed here, what I would like is for my client to be able to update the "Featured Home" section herself.
What I have done is set up an HTML blob which contains the "Featured Home" section, this made the most sense to me. Then I realized she will need to link the "Featured Home" section on the homepage to a "Featured Home" page which she will be creating and editing. This threw me for a bit of a loop and I'm not quite sure where to go from here.
My question is, what is the best way to go about having a client update a small section on the homepage, which then links to a subpage? She will have to create and edit the subpage as well. She isn't very tech-savvy so a simple solution is the best one.
Also, as a side question, you will notice that the "Featured Home" section has a small thumbnail image of a home. Is there a way with CMS Made Simple for her just to upload a full-size image and have the CMS create a thumbnail version on the fly?
Please forgive me if these are stupid questions or if I have not provided enough info. If there is anything else you need from me that I have neglected to mention just let me know.
Thank you in advance.
