Bug Tracker

Hey all,

This is a little short notice, but I want it taken care of before the 0.7 release tonight.

Basically, picking a bug tracking program is hard. It's one of those things that tough to evaluate unless you put it into use and really see how you work with it and how users react.

About 2 weeks ago, I switched over from trac to bug genie so that I could force users to log in before posting bugs. This is because I really need a contact point just in case there is more information. Also, trac doesn't really support email well, and I need to be able to tell when new bugs come in.

So, I installed the bug genie, which has a lot of the features that I needed. However, I'm starting to get frustrated with the navigation and some things about it are either too obtuse or not really made for our type of situation.

I've been thinking about installing mantis again (which is what CMS started with in the first place). The administation is better and the navigation is a little more user friendly. The only real issue that I have with it is the lack of milestones, but there are ways around that fact.

So, my point of this post is.... what do you think?

http://bugs.cmsmadesimple.org = Bug Genie
http://bugs.cmsmadesimple.org/mantis = Mantis

If I do decide to move over to Mantis, I'll move all open bugs in Genie along with it and leave closed bugs lie. Mantis will then be moved to http://bugs.cmsmadesimple.org and genie will be put out to pasture.

I hope this is the last time I need to do this, but bug tracking is VERY important for the continued development of this project, so I feel it's a worthwhile reason to try different applications until we find the perfect one.

Thanks!

Well, mostly based on talk in the IRC channel, mantis wins.

Sorry for anyone that has created an account on the bug genie, but it'll have to be recreated on mantis.

Also, I have my milestone issue figured out, so it's a great fit.

Thanks!
