Publish to Multiple Domains

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Publish to Multiple Domains

Post by asabharwal »

Hi:

I am looking to use CMS Made Simple however would like to verify a couple of things before beginning the install (apologies if these are answered somewhere - I couldn't find it in the documentation or in the forums):
  • Can I have CMS Made Simple installed on one physical server, but my website hosted on a completely different box?  Or do they need to reside on the same box?  As an example, I would like to host CMS Made Simple with RackSpace but manage a domain hosted with GoDaddy.
  • Can CMS Made Simple manage multiple domains through a single interface or must I install multiple copies of the software?  As an example, I have 5 websites I would like to manage with the CMS.  Can I login as an admin and choose which one I want to manage or do I need to install the CMS five times?
Thanks in advance.

Can I have my car parked on Earth, but my parking place be on the Moon ? I'm kidding ;)

OK, I had misunderstood. You were asking : can I have a hosting provider which is not my registrar/domain provider ?
Of course you can.
BTW, I'd say you should. I allways do it this way. I register my domains with gandi.net then I host them at suitable places. If one of these places becomes bad, I can switch to another.
BTW2, see http://nodaddy.com/

Let's stop using the world "domains" about hosting. Each of your websites has its own domain and content. Let's say "one website, one content". With CMSms, it is "one content, one install". You need to install CMSms multiple times.
BTW, these installs can share a single db if they are hosted by the same provider. They just use their own table prefix.

Hope it helps, have fun.

Thanks Pierre!

Actually, You were right the first time.  :)  I want CMSms to be installed on one server and for my actual website content to reside on a different server halfway across the world.  After making the edits in CMSms, I would then 'publish' the final content to the website server (sort of like using DreamWeaver).  This would mean duplicate copies, yes, but the ability to manage multiple websites from a single machine and then publish them out as required.  Based on your answers, I'm assuming this is not possible and that CMSms must reside on the same machine as the website content.

Cheers,

A.

In fact, you can build (say locally) a CMSms powered site on the sole purpose to manage the content. Then, to broadcast this content on the web as static files, mirroring the CMSms generated content. A Dreamwaver way of doing things, indeed. A tool like httrack.com can help.
