Hello,

Hoping somebody can help me with this puzzling issue, but first the basics:  I'm running CMSMadeSimple 1.0.5 Molokai on a Linux hosting server company.

Just last night, my website (comebestill.org) was running fine, and then I wake up this morning to find out that all my modules have been uninstalled.  When I click on "Modules" in the menu, I still find all of them there (confirmed by all the folders existent when checking via FTP), but they all say "not installed."  It also gives me the following error at the bottom of the Modules page:

The modules folder is not writable, if you would like to install modules by uploading an XML file you need to make the modules folder have full read/write/execute permissions (chmod 777). Safe mode may also be in effect. (Troubleshooting)

Now, I know about the whole permissions debate, I purposefully did not have it setup to 777, since I chose to start uploading all modules via FTP (instead of XML) so I could retain the permission rights instead of having the apache server take over.  But when this problem started, I changed the folder to 777 anyway, just in case. 

So, there are a few modules that I can click on "install" and it gives me the typical successful message at the top of "nuSOAP - installation complete", but it still shows up as not installed in the list below.  Then, I have other modules, such as theme manager and FCK editor, that give this message when I click on the "install" link:  "Be sure to set "Manage Themes" permissions to use this module!"

Any ideas as to what's going on?  What info might I be forgetting about that would help one help me?

Did you do a full install of 1.0.5, or an upgrade?
Were there any error messages when you did the install/upgrade?
If you did an upgrade, did the new files overwrite the old ones properly - I know that when I FTPed the new files to one of my servers, it didn't overwrite the files properly, as the FTP program was not set properly.

Thanks for the reply!  I've tried both.  I had done an upgrade to 1.0.5 about a month ago, and everything went fine, without any error messages.  When I did the upgrade, I made sure to delete all the CMS-related files from the server first, and then I FTP'd the new ones.  As I mentioned before, the site had been working fine with the upgraded 1.0.5 for a couple of weeks, and then my problem occured.

Just yesterday, I backed up my database and did a full re-install, again deleting all CMS-related files from the server first, and then FTP'ing them on, but this time treating it as a re-install instead of an upgrade, but keeping the same database connections.  After everything went smoothly, with no error messages, I'm back at square one.  None of the default modules that comes with the CMS are installed, and some will claim they have installed (when they haven't) and others will give a similar error message to the one below:

"Be sure to set "Manage Themes" permissions to use this module!"

Is this a problem with the database settings and not the CMS?  What does it mean "be sure to set permissions to use this module?  Especially when I'm the main admin account holder?

Hi again,

One thing that might help us go in the right direction...

I just realized that when I go into "Users & Groups" and "Group Permissions," no matter which group name I choose, including the admin one, I don't get any list of permissions to choose from - the permissions list is no longer there.  That might explain why, when trying to install certain modules like the FCK editor, it gives me that error message of making sure that I have the permissions set to be able to install it.

Any idea why I would have a blank list of permissions?  Any particular folder/file I might be missing or needing to upload and overwrite to the server that might solve this?

Again, I'm running 1.0.5 Molokai on a new re-install, using the old database content, on a linux shared hosting server.

Problem solved!

Somehow, the CMS database seems to have corrupted.  I checked with the server administrator, and this is an error message he pointed out when he did some digging around the database for me.

I was having the server tell me I had 2 terabytes of stuff in the account, and it seems that the database corruption was giving an erronous file size to the server.

So, I guess I have to try using a previous backup of the system, or start a new database from scratch.  For future reference, though, has anyone else encountered issues with the CMS somehow corrupting the database in any way?

I've not encountered that problem at all and I've set up quite a few sites, one with well over a hundred pages.

I wonder if something went wrong in your export/import of the data. What do you use to manage the data? Can you browse the datafile extract to see if there's anything amiss? What is the size of your exported sql file? Are you uploading the file for import, or copying and pasting the data into a query?

Perhaps you could try re-importing to see what happens (make a backup of the current one first, of course).

Thanks for offering your help.  Unfortunately, some of the terminology you mentioned was beyond me, but I did want to alert you to something related to this post sequence (if you haven't heard already).  I guess version 1.0.5 of CMSMadesimple has some SQL injection bug, which is what I think happened in my case.  You may want to upgrade any of your sites that are on 1.0.5 right now.  You can read about this bug and the new version update here:
