phpbb <-> cmsmadesimple addon

I was thinking of building a module for cmsmadesimple that shows the new topics in a phpbb forum on the front page of your site but I was wondering if something like this already exists. I couldn't find it so I figured it may come in handy. Any interest for such a module?

I'd love to see something that provided better phpbb integration than the phpbbx tag, which seems to have hit a developmental dead-end. True two-way user account integration, template integration (CMSMS templates applied to phpbb), APIs or tags to output various forum messages (newest, most popular, etc.).

Honestly, I would have loved to see a CMS based on the phpbb system.  Its got great session management, templating, and TONS of users developing for it.

The only downside is the security issues surrounding phpbb because its such a commonly used system.

I believe there is a cms based on phpbb actually. I will not post it here but I'm sure you'll be able to look it up on google.
