Submit page changes results in HTTP 406 error

Just recently installed CMSMS and love it. But sometimes when I make a modification to a page, then press SUBMIT, it results in an HTTP 406 error message in IE.
"The resource cannot be displayed. The resource you are looking for cannot be opened by your browser."
I can preview the changes, but either SUBMIT or APPLY results in this message. It doesn't happen all the time, but about 30% of the time. It's killing me as I'm desperately trying to get my site updated. Here are more particulars:
CMSMS version 1.0.4 "Lanai"
PHP version 4.4.4
MySQL version 4.1.21
Apache 1.3.37 (Unix)
