I went halfway and tried 2.2.8 - still got the same problem. Ive never had any trouble with any of these versions of CMSMS before. What could be causing all these cache files, had another 15,000 produced in last 16 hours.

I know an SEO person has been doing things with the site, Im just wondering if theres something theyve added/changed that could cause this, no idea what. ...

I don't think I ever had such an issue... without taking a look at it, hands on, it's impossible to determine. If you want me to take a look PM me, without any compromise.

ok thanks - Ive tried a CMSMS update - a few versions newer, but that didnt fix. Maybe I'll check plugins. As Ive set every page to 'not cache' but its still producing 1000s of cache files

Does looking at the cache files themselves in a text editor give any clues?

Not that I can tell. Theyre not all the same. But I get 3-10 cache files produced every single minute

Are they just general page templates, or from a module, etc? Do you have Smarty Caching enabled perhaps?

That last one, there are perhaps more of so dont know if they are the issue ones? eg I downloaded a random 8 files. half looked like the last one above

I did have some time to look at the files, and they are legit CMSMS cache files. In a site with a high number of hits I should expect the cache files to be quite high, in particular if there is dynamic content rather then static.

From my assessment:
- no unusual modules;
- no particularly unusual template or page content from the pages I sampled just to look;
- not a particularly big site in terms of number of pages;
- no apparent hacks or viruses and the files that I could see look legit;
- nothing really noticeable on the admin log (except for server constraints/limits);

So, unless I'm mistaken, this is normal, just a server with a low number of inodes limit, as it seems.

Note: this was also communicated with the OP by PM.

Thanks Jo

Re the server with low limit... it was hitting 150,000 files when I was getting the warnings, that does seem a lot?!

Ive set the cache to clear after 1 day now, so hopefully that will keep it within reasonable limits and they will clear ok

I appreciate the time you took

CMSMS up to V.2.2.16 should work with PHP 5.6.
