In the past I have been helped by so many people on this forum, especially after every new upgrade as things need to be sorted and tweaked. As website builders we may have a working knowledge of all that's required to set up CMSMS, but we certainly do not have the years of knowledge that each of the developers has.
This I don't understand at all.
My client's stress over a non-functioning website CMS is my main concern.

At least for me - it turned out to be a hosting issue. I'm still trying to better understand why/what was the problem, but I'll provide what information I got from HostGator support.
There was an unexpected change (that they didn't notify anybody about) that caused this problem. I chatted with a technician and this was what was relative:
"Recently we had some scripts that needed to be whitelisted again, I apologize for the inconvenience."
I asked exactly what changed and for further explanation and was given:
"The script is hitting the mod_sec and so we had to whitelist it, it must be done on our side unfortunately."
So -
Contact your support. Now I'd like to know why, or at least what to look for in the future. I'm just getting started reading the stickies (sorry calguy, I've always managed with the wiki and FAQ before). If you've got some insight Calguy to
help me learn, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you jbad and kgott for sharing your information - much appreciated.
Not sure why your post was deleted kgott right after I read it, but I appreciate your feedback.

Don't forget to change your thread subject to include [Solved] if it works for you.
And in case any of you are interested, read up on Mod Security:
http://www.modsecurity.org/documentation/faq.html . Now is a great time to update to 1.7.1 as well

A huge host like Hostgator is starting to use/adding mod_security rules in 2010

I hope I am understanding this wrong because that is really something

If you think back to the Google/China (the IE flaw/hijack) fiasco - apparently many of the servers being used for the exploit belonged to HostGator. Shortly after that, it seems they've been a little more proactive on the security front.

nah afaik hostgator had mod_security at least some years back.
End of april they did some new OS auto-update settup. This may change some things for them...
And they tighten their mod_security rules all the time

Hey guys!
For some reason I didn't get any 'teasers' that there were responses to this post but quite the activity!
I TOO am on hostgator. jbad, did your experience with hostgator support solve the problem or are we still in limbo?
I was hoping a reinstall, although I'm not comfortable with it, would solve it but it sure doesn't seem like it from what I've read.

Hey y'all,
I too had the same problem... and on Hostgator. My client started experiencing the issue last week and same at the beginning of this week. After seeing this thread a couple of nights ago I contacted hostgator. I spent a good deal of time on chat with them yesterday and low and behold it was like bringing the car to the mechanic and the problem suddenly not occuring. The rep, nor I, could recreate the error anymore. So, my thought is perhaps the issue was resolved globally per jbad and kgott's (and whoever else) call to them? Not sure. I also followed up with an upgrade to 1.7.1 just in case and it seems to be working fine again. Fingers crossed!

The support person I spoke with didn't help much without KNOWING what mod_sec rule needed to be whitelisted but I checked and I am also cleared up
Chalk it up to gremlins I guess!
Thank you all for your help!

I've been on hostgator for a long time and never had problems like this...
Did you look in system info page to see if it was on in there?...

I got my client to contact Hostgator and tell them about the whitelising, and then it was solved.
I have quite a few CMSMS websites on Hostgator, but this was the only one which had the problem, so maybe only certain servers were affected.
At least it's SOLVED now
Hey
lprintz - the reason you don't get the update emails is if you don't click the link in any one of the emails. Say you've already got this page open on the forum, you see an email comes in with an update, you might refresh the page ... which is what I've done in the past
Well at least until I worked out that when you DON'T click the link to read the update, you don't receive any more emails. Go back and read any of the emails - they explain this in the conent, but most of us never read the fine print

Hey Mark, I must admit that when I logged into my client's site I didn't check the System Info until after it was solved.
