Just an update, since the interest is starting to grow...
Last week was a busy week, so I didn't get too far. I'm expecting this week to be the same, as I'm finishing up a few things that need to be knocked out before the end of the year.
However, I'm off all next week from work for the holiday, so I'm hoping to pick 2.0 back up starting this weekend. The idea is to start finishing up some of the things that are started, most notably the permissions changes. Once that and multilang are wrapped up, I'll start thinking about posting some pre-pre-pre alphas for the people interested in the changes so far.
Again, I don't foresee a beta before February as there is still a lot of holes left to fill, but it's getting there. At least if I can show that it's not vaporware, I can help rally the masses to help finish it up.

Ted,
so many people are already so excited
no one thinks it's vaporware
I think with the retooling of permissions

and some of the other features, you are moving closer and closer to the stability of drupal & joomla.
Right now this system is simpler & runs more cleanly then either: with the improvements you are making now, I think it will get even more users.
Then, hopefully, some of us can get to a level where we can contribute some of the features the CMS could use to take it to the next level!

Please see the forge and its several commerce/shopping modules. Please search the documentation and these forums for "cart", "shop", "commerce" and such keywords. There are several projects and it would be cool if you joined one of them or give feedback about them.
Have fun with CMSms

Any 2.0 news? Can we test a working version from SVN or anything?

Nothing much new to see. Again, life and side work has gotten in the way of 2.0 development, and it's starting to get a bit frustrating...
2.0 should be done by now, but we basically have 0 resources to devote to it and as much as I try, it's hard to get ahead.

So 2.0 is not any different from 1.2.3 at the minute?

It's significantly different, there just isn't much new to 'see'. and it's not ready for testing yet.

Sorry, yeah, I didn't explain myself very well. There is nothing that would be noticed to the regular user. Most of the changes are under the hood and a lot is based around ease of development, performance and restructuring of code.
There is a new admin interface look now, which is nice. But it's neither final or complete yet. The admin has been ported over the jquery, which made the javascript a lot less painful.
The changes that will affect the users, namely permissions changes haven't been finished yet. The new editing interfaces for content, using the new block system are done and work nicely. Some of the other little pieces are done as well.
The new installer works, but needs a facelift. It's also missing a few features regarding corner cases (creating a new database, checking all proper permissions, etc).
The integrated front end users stuff is in there, but no login and logout plugins exist yet. The initial stab I took at openid is there as well, but needs integration into a front end form/plugin as well...
There are tons of other changes in there, but these are the ones that come to mind as of stuff done in the last couple of months.
2.0 is close, but there's still a lot of work to do and not a lot of time to do it.

I see. Well keep up the good work. 2.0 sounds amazing by what you have said. Content blocks is somethings that would blow other CMS's out the water.

You may want to see what Magento is doing. True, it's an eCommerce package and not just a CMS, but it's built from the ground up to think in terms of blocks. However, their templating system is far from end-user friendly.

Ted:
Are there tasks that others can do?
Let us know!
I know the dev team all has things assigned, but if all the jobs were listed somewhere, others could work on smaller components, too!

Thinking of documentation

...
are you writing user docs already for parts of what has been done? So a decent documentation is ready together with the release. Or do you already work on it? Can I be of any help with that?
Good work however. I enjoy CMSMS and I am very courius on what's to come!

Agree with this!
