FEU-Can I set groups to only be able to view certain pages? (SOLVED)

Post by Sherri »

Ok. It all works. I was able to add the modules required-Custom Content, Self Registration, Front End Users. I followed the steps in the Visual Tutorials. Had to watch many times for it truly to sink in, I had watched, read and searched earlier today, but it just must not have clicked. Reading several more posts I found and then going back again helped.

So I now have a log in page and a custom page that only logged in users can see. So cool I can't tell you. This is coming from a non-programmer mind you!!!!!!!

Sorry, after I had posted I tried another search and saw info I hadn't found before. (I've spent most of today reading and searching so I thought I'd done a pretty good job before posting) :-/

Here is a thread I found on the topic, plus I will go back and reread the wiki again as it must not have stuck.

Many thanks,
Sherri

_______
Server is Linux 1and1 hosting using latest version 1.2.3 and modules as the install of all modules was earlier today.

I have installed CMS-MS, converted my orignal html and css into a working template and have been adding modules to try to provide, in essence, a password-protected area. The info in these areas is not critical, just employee benefits, handbook, news, and downloads for example for the employee section and downloads for the partners section.

The modules installed at this point are: FEU, self-registration, and captcha (plus others I don't think are related to this question). I have created a couple of test users and groups. When assigning group permissions I see that the options are all modify types of actions whereas I just want to have them be able to view certain pages, navigate through those pages and download files that are linked on those pages, no modification permissions at all or ability to see any backend admin.

Does FEU provide this funtionality or will something have to be written? I am not a programmer, I am an "advanced designer" I guess in that I've managed to get pretty far on this install! ;-)

I have searched and read posts on password protect and htaccess etc. It had sounded like FEU was the proper approach. If htaccess is the answer then I will need to do the following: Since I only have access to the main root I think I will have to instead create a new directory in this named www and move all web files into that, then have the client access his control panel and repoint the website to the www file. That way I could have the htpasswd file outside of the root as indicated in the tutorials.

Is this the correct logic? And will this even work? I didn't get the feeling from reading posts that a password protected area using htaccess would work.

Many thanks for any help,
Sherri

You will need the CustomContent modulee as well

Check out the visual tutorials in the wiki.
