Solved - I.E. 5, 6 & 7 not working with CMSMS 1.1.3.1

Post by WebGirl »

Hi there,

I've built a few CMSMS sites without browser problems, and now I've got a doozy and I hope someone can help me a.s.a.p.

I had installed CMSMS 1.1.3.1 "Apia" - and for the template I'm using 'andreas01'

None of the versions of Internet Explorer are working, and I don't know where to start to fix this.

I went to Browsershots dot org and tested for 10 browsers - these are the results I have, showing I.E. behaving badly:

In the image above, the left and right browsers are correct - the 3 in the middle show menu, then further down the page - content - which is not correct.

Can anyone help me to understand what has to be done to get the site looking right in I.E?

I have used this same template for other sites with other versions of CMSMS without any problems.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Cheers

UPDATE : ISSUE resolved : html code had a problem.
Must remember to VALIDATE html in future :)
Thanks guys for your speedy help across the planet!

May have to do with trying to comment out a whole section of the template you should just copy it and then delete the parts you don't want...

PSPadeditor thru an error on the last .... saying it didn't have a beginning...

And wrap ends here...

Bottom line if you don't want it in the template/page delete it...

OH yea don't forget to close your metadata and use lowercase...  , show, professional, silk">  should be , show, professional, silk" />

Mark, hi,

Thank you for replying so quickly!

I have removed all the commented-out bits of the template and am now waiting for Browsershots to show me if it renders properly or not.

Fingers' crossed!

If you're on a PC can you have a look for me?

Many thanks!  I owe you one!

As soon as it looks right in IE I will mark this post as 'solved'.

PS - What's "PSPadeditor" which you mention above?  Is it a FFox extension?

try validating the code.... if it doesn't validate then all browsers will have problems rendering it (much of the time).  If it validates the job is much easier.

PSPad editor is... it also will reformat HTML & CSS in a few diff. ways...

PSPad  is a freeware programmer's editor for Microsoft Windows operating systems, useful for people who:

    * work with various programming environments
    * like highlighted syntax in their source code
    * need a small tool with simple controls and the capabilities of a mighty code editor
    * are looking for a tool that handles plain text
    * want to save time - PSPad offers rich text formating functions
    * need tool what offer user extension capabilities
    * want to save money and still have the functionality of professional products because PSPad is free for commercial and government purposes too

Sounds like a cool tool, Mark!

I'm on Mac most of the time, but I will download it for the PC I also use.

Thanks!
