Permissions to install modules

Hello!

I would like to install some modules on my new CMSMS site (ver. 1.1.3.1.), but under Extensions » Module Manager I get this message:

WARNING: Insufficient directory permissions to install modules. You may also be experiencing problems with PHP Safe mode. Please ensure that safe mode is disabled, and that file system permissions are sufficient.

and this one under Extensions » Modules:

The modules folder is not writable, if you would like to install modules by uploading an XML file you need to make the modules folder have full read/write/execute permissions (chmod 777). Safe mode may also be in effect.

This is strange, because I setup my permissions on folder "modules" to 777. Why CMSMS thing that this folder is not writtible?

By using Site Admin -> Global setting -> test (000) I get this result:
Owner: nobody
Permissions:
  Owner: Read,Write
  Group: Read,Write
  Other: Read,Write

Can anyone help me, please?

I believe that the Module Manager needs to write to the uploads folder to work correctly.  Might want to check if your uploads & modules folder is set to 777.

Hello!

Yes, I checked out and all permissions are set corect (777).
Its interesting, that this problems started with new version (1.1.3.1). I dont have any problems with this on sites with older versions. One solution is, that I install previous version, but this will not solve the problem at all.

Any idea what to do?

Hi, were you ever able to solve this because I'm getting the same exact error message and have checked and double-checked permissions and safe mode as well.  Thanks, just double checking for a solution!

please make sure you are running the latest official 1.2.x release and recommended settings.
Then search for "usual questions" in my posts to report your issue.

Thanks so much for your reply.  I checked and rechecked things but couldn't get it to resolve and since I needed to fix things quickly I ended up doing a fresh install on the production server (which works like a charm). 

I'm still just learning CMSMS and was delighted to see that I could export the theme I had created for my client very easily from my personal computer and import it to the new install.  Any pages I had created were easily done as a copy and paste from the page edit  on my computer's version to a new content/catalog/item page on the production server.  I'm fairly sure now that it was something I did wrong when I was deploying to the production server -- I still don't know what that might have been (I followed the handbook directions to the letter) but it was certainly enough to destroy my module installation permissions on the production server!

Good news -- the work around was dead easy.

I just upgraded to 1.4.1 and I'm having this same problem now.  My directories are a 777 and files are 666.  The files are owned by my user, but apache runs as "daemon".

What's the solution/workaround for this one?
