Onan existing site - Database Connection failed!

The site's been fine for weeks, and now it's gone!

The error message is:

Database Connection failed

What's happened?

Can I reinstall CMSMS and keep all the work I've done?

The first thing I would do then, is making an dump from the database, so you have all the content...

What would you say has changed since it was working ?
And have you noticed something in the logs ?
And usual questions about the context...
