Navigation in an Iframe issue

I need to create a stanalone menu that I can call in an iframe.  I've got the menu working as I need, but I need the links to open in the _top target.

I am not sure of the syntax to use $node->target to get it to do this (i tried {menu template='minimal_menu.tpl' $node->target='_top'})

Can someone point in in the right direction of what I am doing wrong with the code?
