[solved] choosing cmsms version...help!

Post by knutta_s »

So..I have built the entire site, and is just about done, but one _major_ problem occurs. Since I have used CMSMS 1.0.7 It doesn't support IE6 in the admin-interface. The problem is that this is for a school in Norway, and they all use IE6! So I need to know if there is any of the releases that supports IE6 in the admin-interface. I have tried to check the history of CMSMS requirements, and backtracked to v.1.0, but no effect. How far back do I have to go? The site is pretty simple, so it shouldn't be any trouble using an old version.

Hope that someone out there knows something.

Hello,

an IE6 connected to the Internet is at risk.
Why not use Firefox instead ? If the school is not connected to the Internet, you can bring in Firefox on a CD or USB storage.

I've never heard reports about CMS and IE not getting along in the admin interface.

But either way..... unless there is a real important reason why not to, you should use the latest supported version of CMS before you roll out.  One of those 'real important reasons' may be,  of course, that you're using modules that aren't compatible for some reason, or are unwilling/unable to fix them/get them fixed.

Asking anybody for support on an older version like that could involve asking somebody to re-install that old version of CMS just to reproduce, and verify that a bug has already been fixed in a later version.  Not a nice thing to do.

It's worth the backup and upgrade.

Well the reason is that it is a computer-park maintained centrally by the local government, so rolling out IE7 will mean that all computers on all schools, govermental buildings, etc. will have to install IE7. Principally speaking, I mean that this should have been done six months ago, but this work is going sloooowly.... Schools in this region will probably not see IE 7 in another 6-12 months. In addition to this, there is practically impossible to install Firefox or IE 7 by yourself. There are one user administrating 300 computers with privileges to install, and the IT work is under 20% of his job description. IT knowledge and administration sucks at public schools in Norway! So for any of the content administrators to be able to use the site, it has to be IE 6 compatible. The v1.0-1.1.2 is not compatible.

I however found the solution on of of my old sites. v.0.13 supports IE6, and it will be used. It sucks to use it instead of a newer one, but unfortunatly, it has to be done. So thanks anyway.

Hello again,

what about the liveCD option ? you boot Linux+firefox from a CD : you have Firefox to admin.
