Module Installation - Permission and Ownership Issues

Post by versatility »

I've installed and run CMS and installed modules many times.  However, we are in the process of moving our stuff to a MT dv server, and things are suddently not so smooth.

The app itself works fine, at least so far.  However, when I want to install a module, I encountered permission problems.  I got a checksum error from the direct install so I tried the upload xml file route and got permissions errors.

The application files are all owned by one user, and the files the module is attempting to create say that are owned by Apache, and don't have write permissions.

A - can anybody point in a direction of fixing this?  My server skills are pretty basic

B - What can I do so that I don't have to individually troubleshoot this with each install?  anything?

Thanks much in advance.  I've opened a support ticket with mt, but they do love to say they don't provide app support, so we'll see if they are of any help.

Have you tried uploading the modules as folders then install them?...

If you have an existing install use FTP client to download them to comp. then FTP to new site, it won't delete/harm the ones on site, then install through Extensions > Modules...

I am experiencing some of those permission issues right now. Modules dir is set to 777. I get that permissions error message upon attempting to install. I can see the module's folder that I am attempting to install and that's it. Any help on this is great appreciated.

Did you use the FTP folder to site method or the Module Manager?...
