Not working news module after fresh install of CMS Made Simple

I just installed cmsms 2.1.5, I've merely added a news item. However when I check my website it doesn't show the news articles.

What can prevent the news articles from displaying? I have not modified any settings, templates or stylesheets.

This may sound like a generic inquiry but this has been driving me nuts.

A few things to check:
-the admin log
-your php error log
-that there are news articles that are published (not draft)
-that the articles don't have expiry dates in the past
-that news articles are in the category specified by your {News} tag, if any
