How many records can Products or Company Directory cope with

I've been asked to consider creating a website with an online search for a cemetery. I'd like to be able to present, for each 'dear departed', all their info with a picture or two and a google map with the grave site marked (I have someone who can plot the GPS co-ordinates for me).

There will be around 30,000 records that I need to import and then add to.

I know that LISE wouldn't be able to handle this but would the
Products Module or Company Directory?

Or is there another module or alternative better for the job?

Both Products and Company Directory can easily handle an almost unlimited number of records (limits have more to do with server environment and configuration). WRT LISE, not long ago I would be reluctant to advise it for such a project, however (and also depending on server environment and configuration) I have seen sites using it to handle hundreds of thousands of records without issues, with the added flexibility of being possible to handle frontend submissions via FormBuilder. So my choices have been shifting a bit... Products and Company Directory are very specialized modules and the best choice for what they do best, respectively for massive products catalog with or without the eCommerce suite, and for a directory of companies. But LISE can also be an option here imo.

I think that your best bet will be between Company Directory and LISE, taking in consideration that CD as builtin support for maps.

But it will take a bit of trial and error, before choosing the right combo. I suggest to really give it a go at all 3 modules and compare strengths and weaknesses before you decide. I can tell you from experience it won't be an easy choice and probably the project itself, more than any opinion, will dictate which one will be best.

If LISE will work that would certainly be my first choice. I've recently completed a 2nd Generation site for a client and moved them from Company Directory to LISE (which is easier for them to work with) and had no problem incorporating CGgooglemaps2 into LISE.
