lots of issues after upgrade

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

lots of issues after upgrade

Post by seenoequal »

after backing up my database and files, i upgraded my cms from 1.10 hyacinthe to 1.11 san cristobal

I had some issues during the installation process, firstly on step 2 when checking the permissions and php settings, everything was fine except for 'Checking PHP register Globals' where it said "PHP register globals is active. For security reasons, this should be disabled." and i had an exclaimation mark in an amber circle.

And on the same page further down it says 'Test for remote URL' "fsockopen: Connection ok!

fopen: When allow url fopen is disabled you will not be able to accessing URL object like file
using the ftp or http protocol." with the same exclaimation in the amber circle

Im unsure how to correct these settings.

Then at step 6 i had a blank page where i had no options to click, after some research i figured out that i could rename my module folders to single out the problematic module(s). Eventually i narrowed it down to the self registration module (which isnt too important as i wasnt using that module yet) and my news module (very important as it is at least 40% of my site), with these modules renamed/disabled, i was able to continue through the installation process. I now have 1.11 installed but i am unable to use or install the above modules, if i do i end up with a 500 internal server error on both the front end and the back end.

I am also unable touse or upgrade cgblog or cgextensions, i suspect that because of dependencies, cgblog may work if i can get cg extensions to work. (This is also a very important module to my site) after some research i saw that php 5.3 is necessarry for all cg modules but my php was upgraded to 5.3 a few weeks ago. the cg blog module was renamed to downloads long before the upgrade, I can see downloads in my admin panel under content but when i click it it just refreshes the page, however it still says cgblog and cg extensions need upgrading in my module manager.

my final issue is with the checksum, after uploading the checksum fle i got these results which im assuming isnt good!

Well actually you'll need PHP 5.4, as 5.3 is already EOL, and no longer supported by the PHP developers.
There is a post about this too: http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/viewtopi ... =7&t=71719.
CMSMS core still works with PHP 5.2, but most 3rd party modules may require 5.3 as a minimum, and CG modules latest releases need 5.4

As the steps for changing these options depend on host configuration (i.e: you may have to edit various php.ini files, or may be able to put something into a .htaccess file). You may need to contact your host for instructions on how to change them.

Also, when talking to your host figure out how to enable error logging, and get them to tell you where the error logs are. You cannot develop a website without a way to find the errors that WILL pop up.

Next. It seems you had a problem uploading files, as that is the only way that you would get checksum errors such as this.

I suggest you restore your site from backup, and then try again using the instructions that are well described on the docs site: http://docs.cmsmadesimple.org

first off, thanks for the replys..

I brought this up with my hosting providers and this was their response: Your account is set with PHP 5.3 version and its the highest version supported by our servers. If you need to install any application which needs php 5.4 above, it would not work.

which leaves me pretty much screwed...

Im hoping theirs a way to downgrade to the highest available version, any thoughts on this?

Calguy1000: I understand about the files missing etc, thats down to me changing the name of the news directory, im not able to log in to my admin whilst the folder is named news. But what about everything under this line, what does it mean? "140 Files failed md5sum check:"

will contact my provider regarding the htaccess file etc and let you know the response

PHP 5.4 (now required by CGBlog and other modules) isn't exactly cutting edge, it was released the best part of 3 years ago.

I've never upgraded a site with modules with changed names, you probably need to rename them back to what the system is expecting them to be called before upgrading, hopefully someone else can help there.

Sounds like a load of files didn't upload. How did you upload the upgrade files? FTP? That might be the reason. Or have you hit a file storage limit and that's why files didn't upload? Try uploading the zipped file and unzip on server (you can do this in cpanel).

Either way, it sounds like you've hit a brick wall with your host so I would probably be finding another and starting again. :-\
