CMS Comparison

Post by climberusa »

Would anyone mind comparing the two of these CMS's to see what real differences ther are?

http://www1.paperthin.com/products/index.cfm

and this one of course. I may asked to use Commonspot on an upcoming project an if possible I'd like a reason to have them use CMSMS. Of course if they are running an inhouse coldfusion server I guess my question would answered.

thanks!!

Well, for starters...  Pricing for CommonSpot Standard Edition license starts at $19,500.  Ack!  :)

Honestly, though.  We have at more than 50% of the same feature set.  We don't have the workflow stuff, the taxonomy stuff, no built in search, and no multiple language handling.  But, if you don't absolutly need any of that, it's $20k cheaper, and I'll gladly sell some kind of support package if necessary.

:)

For 19k, it better make coffee for me in the morning.  I mean honestly, with all of the options out there, how could anyone keep a foothold in the market with a price like that for starting out?  It's not even like they're doing anything original.  *shrug*

19K... I've still not stopped laughing - you could write your own from scratch for that ;-)

Same feeling here, for this money you can probably develope the new language you write it in too ;)

But.... the same is true for other software like eg. Exchange server from MS which will cost you dearly if you have a thousand users. (I think it is 115$/user retail price + 1200$ base price).
Compare that with Sambar, Merak or the many other mail or all-in-one packages.

I run about 5 Sambar Pro servers and have web/mail/ftp/proxy/irc/and whatever it does more except making coffee for unlimited users for 99$ :)

Ridiculous, I know. Well I'm meeting with the client this afternoon so I'll see what the hell they were thinking. It may have been a decision out of their control. It's for a small department of a large hospital.
