Sports Cards or Inventory type module/add-on

I've done some searching in the forums (and in Modules) and noticed a module called Cataloger. I wanted to ask those that have used it if it would be a viable option to put my sport's card collection online. Currently I am using an excel spreadsheet, but I would really like this to go online in a more dynamic format. This would allow me to direct people I trade with to my website if they wish to browse any of my cards available for trade or sale.

This is just the module that you need, I would say. As long as you don't sell/trade them (via the site) I see no issues.

What issues would you foresee if I wanted to put a checkout or cart system (paypal, etc) on the site? Is it due to copyright? If so I would most certainly contact the author(s) previous to launching a "profitable" website with others code.

I think what Duketown meant was that the Cataloger module doesn't have any e-commerce functionality built in, so if you wanted to sell online, it would not be a good solution.

You should perhaps look at Calguy's E-Commerce suite (Products, Orders, Cart, etc.)
