First Time upgrading.. from 1.8.2 to 1.9.4.1

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

First Time upgrading.. from 1.8.2 to 1.9.4.1

Post by Jerahco »

hey guys i need to upgrade because of the blog module. i'm super scared to do this, and i read the upgrade info but its not all that clear. i use ftp. Also i didn't see an "upgrade" file for 1.9.4.1 so not sure if i just use a new install.

if anyone wants to help me through it i would really appreciate it.

Back up DB and all folders/files, then if using FTP unpack 1.9.4.1 and upload it overwriting all, go to site.com/install/upgrade.php and follow the prompts you may need to change permissions on config.php to 666 so it can be written to...

Try duplicating your site in a side folder (copy the database as well). Make sure you change the paths and the database credentials in config.php.

Then replace the CMS files with the ones from 1.9.4.1, either full or diff (if available), and when installing, tell it to not overwrite the database/install default content/whatever. Once you're happy with the results, either upgrade the original install, or move the one you've already upgraded into the main folder, edit your config.php to reflect the new path, and you're done.

I never upgrade a live site.

@Wishbone

Going from 1.8.2 to 1.9* you can't use diff files...

On upgrade you don't run install but /install/upgrade.php...

I think there were some changes, so compare the old one with the new one.
