Immigration website

Post by beherenow_uk »

Hi all,

I finally finished this site I've been working on for the last month. Just want to say a big thank you to everyone on the CMSMS forums for helping me with my questions. There were a fair few of them!

http://www.forgatevisas.com/

Just got it working nicely on the iPad too so it's all good now. It's built using CMSMS 1.9.3 and uses the following modules:

CMSMailer 2.0.1
FileManager 1.1.0
MenuManager 1.7.5
ModuleManager 1.4
News 2.11.1
nuSOAP 1.0.2
Printing 1.1.2
Search 1.6.10
ThemeManager 1.1.4
TinyMCE 2.8.3
CGExtensions 1.23
CGSimpleSmarty 1.4.7
FormBuilder 0.7
GoogleMaps 0.1.8
Glossary 0.6.8
FormBrowser 0.4
Dictionary 0.4.2
LinkMgr 1.5.1

All comments and critiques are welcome!

Thanks, Karl.

  • use unobtrusive Javascript AND
  • not use external Javascript (googleapi)
If you don't do that thinks like the attachment will break.

E: The submenu in the page breaks too

Interesting.

How is the JavaScript obtrusive? It's just a content slider. I thought obtrusive JavaScript is that it creates pop up windows and puts elements in your way?

Also I used the googleapi to reduce load of our server, i thought it was better to spread the load of the page (like a CDN) than have it all centered on a single server?

I'll be interested to hear your response..

Thanks.

It's just a content slider.
You can see in the Screenshot that the content is only really shown with JS.
The right way should be to put the content visible and usable on the page and after that to integrate a slider or whatever.
Also I used the googleapi to reduce load of our server
The price of it is to give the privacy of your users and the privacy of the page to google. Without the agree of one of them.
Second it can be blocked in networks. Screenshot speaks about.

very nicely done.

On the homepage, under the Free Visa Assessment at the bottom, "don't" is missing the apostrophe, and the second sentence needs a period at the end.

Thanks, that's updated.

Ps - Awesome how you call a full stop a 'period' :)
