Collaborative editing

Post by pikkabbu »

To moderators : please forgive whenever this post could be in the wrong forum and fell free (of course) to move it.

I can't believe my quest could be achieved.

I've been desperatly seeking some collaborative software for my site.

CMSMS can be that one, but I need some informations and ideas / help / etc. as well as I'm interested 2 know if someone else has similar project.

We are a group of authors, writing short stories / novels in a collaborative way.
Not famous, not yet  ;)

Collaborative writing, as we do it, supose that several people extend and modify the texts, until we think it's good now.

Important : we must use a different font-and-color so that the author of add-on and modifications can be inmediatly identified.
That's mean wysiwyg editor, as html or UBB codes make txt impossible to read on.

We need to classify text in folders and sub folders, as we use to manage several projects together.

We need to manage permissions, i.e. the original author of a project invites who he wants to collaborate. It can be individuals or a full  group. read only or edit.

A no much more.

Add pages, edit pages, delete pages, move pages
create folders, rename, delete, move folder
search by author / tag / word inside
member / groups management

It must be in french.

So, any clue about how I can install this server ?
Anyway to link it with SMF forum ? (not the most important)
Any clue about which moduls - ad-on I could need ?

And.... anyone has a similar project ?
Anyone already has a similar running site ?
What question did I forget to ask  ;) ?
Is there a life BEFORE death ?

Thanks a lot

CMSMS has fckeditorX and other wysiwygs for this kind of editing, you could even create own styles for each editor which he or she could use for own texts. (something like and everything in that class would be red, and then have <p class="ready" which would make the text green and so on)

sounds like every text should be its own page. then you can also have folders like "short novels", "work in progress" and so on

by default everybody has read rights. Original author can select other editors for that page when he creates it (There have been suggestions about renewing the permissions system but it will be a while)

search is underdevelopment, pisearch might do the trick, or phpdig for google like indexing

There is a french translation

SMF doesnt have integration, punBB has, but you can always use similar layout on SMF and embed it into cms (thats whats beeing done on this site)

You might want to check frontendusers and customcontent for login pages on frontend

most sites use this basic behaviour without the author text coloring stuff.
you forgot to ask the question that has the answer of 42
You'll have to wait and see :)
