hi, any ideas on how or if it is possible to upgrade and existing site from 0.13?
Or would it be easier to rebuild.. any thoughts appreciated
upgrade very old site 0.13 :)
Re: upgrade very old site 0.13 :)
I would do full back up, DB folders/files, then if you don't use any special News templates go for it, any 3rd party modules you have may have to be upgraded...
Re: upgrade very old site 0.13 :)
I'm also looking to upgrade from an old version 1.0.4
Should I delete all the old files and then run the instal -
OR, try to instal over the top of the old files?
I've done a back-up of the files, so should be safe to do either right??

Do a backup of the database, as well, then try the upgrade.
Please do let us know how it goes - whether you were successful , or not.

About 50 pages
Re: upgrade very old site 0.13 :)
I upgraded an older site than that in one jump and only had to import flat file News templates...
Why do you insist on trying to freak people out about upgrading?...

I also upgrade direct to latest by overwriting all files with latest...
BUT for big jumps on production sites I always install the backup with the backed up files and db on local server and upgrades that one as test before I try on the live one.

I agree with Reneh. Make a test server and upgrade it there before you move it to live. A lot of modules have changed since then.

There you go, 2 very well thought out replies...
Re: upgrade very old site 0.13 :)
After a bit of a scare first off - page full of errors - it all worked out OK
I ended up deleting most of the old site (mainly due to disk space) and then installing. My cPanel wouldn't expand the gz file completely, so zip'd it on my laptop and uploaded - that worked fine!? Not sure what the problem is with expanding those files, but hey!!
I also used cPanel to restore mySQL, and again a few problems with missing data. Used phpAdmin and everything uploaded fine - except the global content blocks. They were in the database, but not showing in admin panel. Ran an upgrade install and they all appeared.
Other than that only had to upload a menu template, a couple of modules and tinker with the news and sitemap, to get it all ship-shape.
I assume 'news' no longer provides an RSS feed? All modules seem to produce CGExtension errors!?
Thanks for comments and hope this may help other to come
