Ist it possible to specify a directory for the images used in {page_image}?

Nope.

But you can try the GBFilePicker module to give you similar functionality. It allows you to specify folders and/or allow the end-user to browse to one.

Sorry, I was not clear enough ...

Right now, when I select an image for a PAGE (on the second page of page editor), the select box offers images out of the /uploads/images folder.

I want to show images of a different folder, e.g.  /uploads/images/design

Can I specify where the page_image files reside?
