iphone, ipad and mobile devices

Post by dizzyfish »

Hi

I am a graphic designer who did a favor for a client and made a web site. Great, all is well and I really like CMSms. Learned a lot and may do this some more.

Now the client says they want the swf header they provided to work on the higher end mobile devices such as the 3g systems and android. A freind of the client is a Web Expert. The expert said the file could be changed to work for these. So I have been searching for some answers...

I see via research it is best to build a special mobile device site, etc? Use CSS style to redirect the user based on the agent. This means making a second site and as above the client has been told by a "web expert" that the swf can be changed to another type of media. Fine, I can see this and how to do that... if I made a second site. I see I can make a conversion to MP4 if I get the right conversion software. I see I can convert to 3GP also. But these seem to be for the mobile platform and not for the average screen at a laptop, tower etc. So I see both a swf and 3gP (or mp4?) would be needed.

What I have not found is the code I can add in to tell the mobile device to read the file it needs and use the site as is... (which is not the best idea from my way of seeing things, but I am not a "web expert").

I am probably not getting something here. Can anyone send some links to a source for the needed information? Or is there a bit of php code, or css style that will allow the mobile user's device to "see" this animated header so a second site is not needed... yet.?

Thanks
