CMSMS Release Documentation

Hi there -
I'm hoping someone could point me in the right direction here since I can't seem to find this.  Is there documentation anywhere that lists each minimum requirement for each release?  I've run into a problem where the hosting environment where one of my client's site is hosted does not meet the latest (1.8.1) php requirements of 5.2.4, so I can't upgrade to this version and moving hosts isn't an option.  I can't seem to find individual specs for each release to know what version I can possibly upgrade the cms to until the server is brought up to the recommended cmsms requirements (which won't happen until next year some time).  The php on the server is 5.1.6 - my question is which release is the latest release that I can still install on this server?
