localhost install not allowing admin access

Post by sydneysunshine »

Hi! I've previously installed and worked with cmsms (as a designer new to cms and php), but I'm currently having a problem with a reinstall on my localhost at home.
I am currently using winxp, wamp5 (downloaded and installed today), cmsms 0.11.2,  apache 2.0.55, 2.7.0-pl2, PHP/5.1.2, MySQL 5.0.18. I also use zonealarm.

I tried to start cmsms today after not using it for ages. I couldn't log in because I forgot my admin password. I decided to reinstall cmsms (it also needed upgrading). It installed to the point of getting successfully to the front page, but when I tried to log in to admin, it kept coming back to the admin login page. It didn't say the user or pass was incorrect, it just had the same page load, and in the status bar, it reads "waiting for localhost", then "done" (I noticed that the access log had a lot of 302's if that helps). I was running another cmsms localhost setup at another computer two days ago, so I know I have the ability to install correctly, just not today :(

This may be really obvious, and I'm sorry if it is - I have little previous experience with cms/mysql/php. So far I have tried the following over the last few hours: I created a new database and created a user with cms priviledges. I uninstalled easyphp and installed current version of wamp (purely because someone recommended it in the forum here), I tried installing cmsms maybe about 10 times with different directory names, with exactly the same result. I tried shutting zone alarm down, tried changing the admin folder name, checked config settings. Cleared cookies, restarted wamp, tried to change the cms_user password using wishy's suggested one in a forum response.

All this is leading me to believe that it's something really blindingly obvious that I haven't checked.

I am going to try and install another cms in the meantime just to see if it's a localhost problem (but trust me I'm stuck on cmsms!  :) ).

Thankyou in advance for your help! Christine

Hmm.  That's definitely a strange one.

I really don't have a clue.  First place I would look is to make sure that all URLs and paths are right in config.php.  Sometimes with php as a cgi process, the paths get kind of screwed up.  Though, you would probably notice stylesheet's not working right on the frontend if that was the issue.

I wish I had a better answer than that...

Hi again, well I have fixed it - you were right about the config. But although I had changed it previously, I hadn't checked it when I turned my firewall off. It's the combination of turning zonealarm off and changing the config for the site to work.

The paths in config were like: C:\\filelocation\\file\\file and some of them had a combination of
/'s and \'s in the same path. The stylesheets were working on some installs and not others.

Thanks for your help  :)

Okej...I´ve tried your solution and it worked...turn ZA off and the site works great. But with ZA ON it won´t let me log in as admin.
I´ve tried almost everything to make ZA grant me access to the admin-part. *confused*

I´m running WAMPserver locally....still. I´m waiting for my domain to get started. Maybe I´ll just wait until it is up running and try then on my new webhost. But it would be nice to be able to testrun it locally first.

So far, I believe CMS Made Simple seems to be a nice CMS. I used PHP-Nuke before but it was hacked all the time....

Hi! Hmm now that I'm thinking about it again, I put the localhost address in the trusted zone in ZA and it seems to work now (make sure you turn the firewall off for the trusted zone).
Does it work for you?

Hi! Thanks for trying.
No, I´ve done all that to. Still wont show admin pages after a successful login.
