aln_cms offered to help in another thread and in that same thread I offered time as well and I see replytomk3 is working his tail off verifying what's in there now.
Other than maybe coordinating some initial steps and direction (so we don't have people doing 3 or 4 different things) I see no reason why the dev team needs to be distracted from core development.
As a starting point...what about picking out stuff we like by looking at some examples from www.xoops.org/modules/repository/ or extensions.joomla.org and starting with that. The "download now" link can still point to the current forge..but at least we can have some more control over what shows up and how it gets displayed and have a strict set of definitions for what is considered a production module.
The forge does work well for holding the actual code and revision history for the modules, it is just not a user friendly display and that is what everybody is truly griping about.
Finding the answer
Re: Finding the answer
I haven't seen much discussion about your time Sonya so I am sorry I can't speak for your situation. I know the team is cautious about accepting help. We don't want to turn anyone away (absolutely not), but too many times there has been good intent with no follow through, sometimes negative intent so they could just obtain a "Title." Many times special areas of the site have been setup for projects like this only to have it abandoned after a few weeks. Then all of the time and money that was used to set it up was a waste and detracted from the ultimate project goal.
So please understand it is not an attack against you or any one person. It's more of a situation where before getting excited and jumping in head first we like to test the waters. Because I know Ted and some of the other devs are extremely busy try PMing me or finding me in IRC (preferred) and we can discuss your intent and see what we can do for you. I make absolutely no promises but we'll see what we can do.

If all else fails, use a bigger hammer.

Thank you for your reply! I can understand your situation very well, as I have been involved in some projects in the past myself and I know how difficult it is to gain the time for development and to sort out the people who really want and are able to help. I can respect every decision you make within dev team. But till I have the ultimative "no" from the team, I will keep annoyingtyman00 wrote: I haven't seen much discussion about your time Sonya so I am sorry I can't speak for your situation.
