Installation on a GoDaddy.com shared server

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Installation on a GoDaddy.com shared server

Post by rob »

This is from what I've been through and hopefully it can save folks some time who are going to use a similar set up..

1st, make sure you're not using their "windows" shared server, even with the php option, the php is in safe mode and won't have the ability to write, so you have to use the linux server set up (this is the 9.95 per month server that I've been using), you can switch it pretty quick for free, so don't worry about it costing more to switch to the linux option.

2nd, make sure that you log in to your account at www.godaddy.com and and look for the tab that says "hosting servers" and then click "my hosting account"

3rd, from this point, you'll see your hosting plan, and on the right side, it will say "settings : databases : cancel account", click on databases and then you can create your 1st my sql database and wait for it to be approved (5 minutes or so maybe?)...

4th, from this point, you'll use this information for part 3 of the install process where you will enter the host into the cms set up as taken from the godaddy part under the database page from the 3rd part above (host in the cms set up will probably look like "mysql45.secureserver.net" or something similar that you'll see listed on the godaddy database page, database name / username / password all will come from this part as well (the password is not seen, but you will enter the godaddy password you used while setting up the database in the 3rd part above, and enter that for the password for the cms set up on step 3)

Anyhow, I hope this helps!

I just installed CMS Made Simple on Godaddy, so here are some additions. The installation was done 21.12.2008. I used CMSms 1.5.1.

Installation is, in my opinion, easier if SSH is enabled. Enabling SSH has to be done before setting up the MySQL databases. Here are the instructions: http://help.godaddy.com/topic/58/article/4942

When installing mySQL, GoDaddy requires that username and database name are the same. If you try to use a username like cmsuser, it was in my case taken by another customer. So, just come up with your own ones.

To find out the host name for the MySQL database, click on the Pencil icon in the Databases section of the Hosting Control Center: http://help.godaddy.com/article/39

At GoDaddy, PHP is not in safe mode: http://help.godaddy.com/article/83

Just some tricks that hopefully help someone.
