Can CMSMS Work For me

Post by muzza4 »

Hi there,

We are considering using CMS Made Simple within our small company, but we're not exactly sure how it will work in our particular case. I'm hoping someone can comment on this posting and tell me if we're going down the wrong path, else what pitfalls we might encounter.

Our Clients
-----------------
1. We have several clients for whom we want to upgrade websites
2. These clients are in a similar activity, and each website will be virtually identical (other than content and images)
3. Most clients will be hosted on our server, but some may be elsewhere.

Our Solution
-----------------
1. Install CMSMS on our server
2. Create sample client website
3. Clone the sample client website for each client
4. Pass content control to each client.

Is this a common approach?

Will we require a separate database for each client (those hosted by us), and if so, how do others deal with this proliferation?

If a client wishes to remain with their ISP rather than being hosted by us, then that site will need a complete CMSMS installation - correct?

Is there a cloning process, or will be need to create this ourselves?

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the sitepusher module.

Hi Nullig

The module name sounds hopeful, but I was unable to find anything more than "A module that will allow pushing an existing site onto an empty hosting".

It might help I guess, but I haven't installed anything yet, so I am unable to assess.

Thanks

Replicate and install a cmsms clone is pretty simple.

Requires just:

1. Dump the database, and restore it on the target server
2. Copy files to target server
3. Edit config.php

Can be done in minutes.

You can use the same database with different tables prefix, but its not recomended since the database user will have privileges on other tables than his own cmsms tables.

Hi Viebig,

If we have 16 sites on the one server we would have 16 separate databases - correct? Does this present any management issues e.g. CMSMS upgrades, a change to the basic template to apply to every site etc?

And presumably we use just one copy of the code?
