Stuck on Step 1 - Checking for GD library

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Stuck on Step 1 - Checking for GD library

Post by amg »

OK.  So I decided to go ahead and try CMS Made Simple.  It seems like a cool product and the people here seem responsive and friendly and I love products that are actively supported.  I'm currently installing on my Windoes XP desktop machine.

Apache is v 2.2.
MySQL is 5.0
CMSMS is 1.4.1 base (from this recommendation -- "If you are preforming a new installation to a new site, you should select the base package and whichever language packages you need.")
PHP is 5.2.6

Its already taken me a lot longer than expected (5 hours) to get to this point and I'm not understanding the problem.  When I run the install script http://localhost/cmsmadesimple/install/index.php I get an error under Required Settings > Checking for GD Library.  I read through the documentation but an understanding of the problem is not getting through my thick skull.  Can someone kindly enlighten me as to why I'm receiving this error and how to resolve it?

Thank you. :) ???

I do not know how you are installing php, apache etc. but I've always used xampp http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html if needed to run on Windows XP. I never had any problems with gd or anything.

Remember that most real servers are linux / Unix and file permissions etc. are much more strict on those.

PHP's documentation ? Lib GD documentation ?
As KO has said, xampp may come with everything in order.

Thanks for the recommendations.  I finally had some time to try and get this working again.  I uninstalled my previous installation of apache, php and mysql and then downloaded and installed the xamps as suggested but am having the same issue.

Here is a screen shot of the error message that I am receiving:
Image

Notice the error:
Checking for GD library

GD library are mandatory for some modules and functionality.
Failure

I checked the php.ini files and they have gd enabled

As far as the documentation, I was referring to the a few sources:
1. the link you see at the top of that page in the screen shot
2. CMS forums
3. CMS FAQ
4. Other PHP sites that came up in a google search with that error message.

Input would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I was about to give up on this and shut down for the night but accidentally restarted.  So I logged back in and gave it one last try.  It works now!  The problem was the path for PHP which I had incorrectly setup due to my last PHP install.  I changed it and the reboot finally got the install pointing to the right PHP.

Gotta love windows and dumb things one overlooks when tired.

amg, GD, great when you have it, a real problem when you don't! If this has solved your problem, which it apparently has, then could you please put [SOLVED] in the title of the first post.

Hello amg,

I'm having the same problem (uninstall php and install wamp).
Now I have the same error (gd library not found).

Could you specify what you did when saying :
"The problem was the path for PHP which I had incorrectly setup due to my last PHP install.  I changed it and the reboot finally got the install pointing to the right PHP"

Thanks in advance,
Nico

Hello,

please, how to set up PHP'GD library is not CMSms specific. It is a PHP question for PHP support.
