Album 0.9.3 problems with CSS and Templates

Post by Bob »

CMS MS 1.2.5 on
Apache version 2.2.8 (Unix)
PHP version 5.2.5
MySQL version 4.1.22-standard
Operating system Linux

Album Module 0.9.3

Browsers: FF & Safari on Mac, FF, IE7, IE6 on PC

OK, here goes: (This might be a CSS issue, so I hope I'm in the right Forum board)

I've used Album in the past for  a couple of my CMSMS sites, with relatively OK results, preferring to use "ThickBox with Links."
I just did a new install of CMSMS for another site, and wanted to start clean with everything, and installed Album 0.9.3.
There is no supplied CSS to attach to my Main Template (based on Simple Left). All there is, is the "Default" CSS to leave checked in the options for Album. And "ThickBox with Links" template is gone. (I'm know I can copy the template from another site that I have using it)

But what happened to the CSS? The supplied one I had for earlier versions was not great, but sort of worked (of all things, best in IE6... go figure) Now, with a fresh install of both CMSMS and the Album Module, my thumbnails are all at 100% size (like 300px wide) while overlapping each other all over the place!

Here's the link: (it's in progress, and not ready to go live yet from the other server)
http://74.53.47.66/~rocknroy/index.php?page=photos

Anyone have any ideas of what I can do to get a decent looking Thumbnail Page... (BTW, the previous ones that I had were all screwed up looking... the thumbnail pic w/padding was offset to the lower right by about 10px from the borders... I had no way of figuring out how to center the thmb pic to the middle of the nice borders)

I appreciate any help someone can give ( Mark seems to be the guru on this stuff  :) )

When you picked the images for the Album did it show you little images, it's supposed to look for thumbs and if none it should generate them...

The red part is supposed to be the thumb, like so...

So I did a test and it did make the thumbs, image has a red default missing image image till it's done making the thumbs then they show and I went to file manager ang looked in the folder and it has thumbs...

The other thing you need to do is go to Content » Photo Albums » Options click 'View Default Stylesheet' You copy that then paste it into a style sheet for album you can then attach it to your template...

It has a tick box to attach it auto but it doesn't quite work that well, the next/prev. images for lightbox don't show and it also attaches it to every template...

OH yea BTW did you mess with the template at all?...

Thanks Mark!

Nope... it never generated any thumbs... and after looking at one of my older sites... some of my albums DID make thumbs (like thumb-image1.jpg), and some didn't. The site I directed you to is all clean without me messing with it... and no, I didn't mess with the Template yet. I just wanted to start with a fresh Album mod to start from scratch.
Any ideas why it didn't generate the thumbs?
The other thing you need to do is go to Content » Photo Albums » Options click 'View Default Stylesheet' You copy that then paste it into a style sheet for album you can then attach it to your template...
I did try that, and tried adding the thumb code from a previous site's CSS hoping it would work, and nada. I honestly thought the CSS resized the images for the thumbs. SO I deleted the attached Album CSS I tried making, went back to the Album - Options and clicked the Default CSS back on, without any decent results.

In regard to the templates, in my previous sites, I had the ThickBox with next/prev Links, but the new install doesn't. I have no idea how I got it in the first place or why it would have been not included in the new version.

Have you tried going to image manager and looking in the folder, This is supposed to make thumbs in the background, you wont see them in image manager but then you can go to file manager and see if they are there...

If not something isn't working maybe you have one of the other image manipulation php engines...

BTW what is your file mask set at?...

Hi again Mark ,

Idiot me :-[...Looks like I didn't have my permissions set up right to get thumbnails... my bad. Should be 777 (?) for my clubpics directory... I thought 755 would be enough. So I got thumbnails now (phew ??? ) meaning I got the thumb_image1.jpg, etc going on.

same link below

http://74.53.47.66/~rocknroy/index.php?page=photos

And they look somewhat normal (as opposed to my previous sites) But the mouse over" doesn't work anymore (the default "light blueish green?") but I suppose I could try messing with the CSS some more.

I guess I'll have to copy the old .tpl for Thick Box with Next and Previous Links and import it. ( I still have no idea where I got that from)
If not something isn't working maybe you have one of the other image manipulation php engines...
I think I had another Album type module, if that's what you mean... SimpleViewer something... would that have given me additional templates and CSS's? I dunno... I had one CSS called "CD Covers" or something, but i can't find it on a CMSMS search... really, I did not make up that CSS... I got it thru here somehow.

Anyhow, I could mess around with the CSS some more to get the mouse over thing happening... I don't know what happened there, and I got to take some time to look into it.

Seems like I can't have it working without the Album/Option/ default CSS. If I copy and paste the CSS, make my own sad-pathetic CSS modifications, then un-click the Option/Default CSS in Album, my Thick Box (Big Image) gets buried in the lower left corner of the site.
BTW what is your file mask set at?...

002

BTW: I've been racking my brains over this: Why can't I get the "Instructions" Centered? I've {text-aligned: center} in the CSS and tried HTML coding in the template, and nothing works... what am I missing? OR is something in my main CSS over writing it? Or is it the "clicked' checkbox thing in Album/Options?

Sorry if these are "newbie" questions... but I do love the CMS-MS :)

The thick box has next/prev. links below the title in the big image, supposed to anyway...

Lightbox has images for next/prev. links over the image...

You have 2 style sheets, the default and yours, if you want just yours untick the 'attach default CSS' in album interface, don't forget to hit apply...

The CD covers CSS is from one of the first ver. of Album...

The next/prev. should show up once you just attach the one you copied from the default, when using lightbox...

The instruction text is part of a paragraph... you can change the template to move it to it's own , oh and a div isn't allowed in a ...

Apparently, not with this upgrade  and clean install of Album... I haven't tried yet, but I assume I could just copy the code from my other site, create a new template, import it, etc. But then I'll have to grab the CSS from my other site to get ThickBox with next/prev links to work... which has it's own issues. Actually, the reason I'm setting up a clean Album for this new site is so I can hopefully get it working all nice like, and use it on my other site with just a few simple color changes.

The other site is
http://74.53.47.66/~xtremema/index.php? ... ot-On-Site (beware of possible female nudity)

My problem with that one is the damn thumbnails are off centered and I can't figure out where I screwed that one up (or if I did screw it up myself) In IE6, which we still have running on one of our machines and I use to test my sites, it actually looks how we want it... but in IE7, FF, and Safari, the thumb image with the light blue hover padding is off centered lower right from the grey border. Plus I have a dark blue hover (probably due to my main Template CSS "links" set-up) which actually looks kinda cool in IE6, but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to make it look like IE6's version in the newer browsers... which is why I did this whole new install for our Clubs' site with a brand new install of Album. If you have access to all the above browsers mentioned, maybe you can see where I'm going wrong. (I could care less about Netscape or Opera or the now defunct IE5.5 for Mac... my concern is IE 6-7, FF, and Safari)
You have 2 style sheets, the default and yours, if you want just yours untick the 'attach default CSS' in album interface, don't forget to hit apply...
And this is where I'm having problems. All I did was copy the Default CSS, created a new CSS (labeled Rockstar-Album1), pasted the  Default CSS code, and made a little change to the border colors basically pink instead of grey, but when I untick the "attach default CSS",  it's showing all the images  at 100% off my page (lower left corner out of the main template) with a "loading bar" that gives no results. I still have the thumbnails with the border color change I made but the ThickBox doesn't work. Lightbox doesn't work without the Default CSS being ticked as well (BTW, I have no next or previous links in LightBox either... but that's moot cuz my boss prefers the Thickbox with links over the Lightbox with links). So my question is why does the Album require the Default CSS ticked to work if I have basically the same CSS attached to my main Template? That's just weird... or am I still missing something?

Aside from all that, the "mouse over" doesn't work over the thumbs with the new installation. It's in the CSS (both of them) to turn light blueish green on hover, but I see nothing. I don't get it.
The instruction text is part of a paragraph... you can change the template to move it to it's own , oh and a div isn't allowed in a ...
That worked! I gotta school up on my HTML/CSS rules  :-[ I suppose.

Thanks again for all your help (past and future).

Do you have your style sheets checked for more than one type of media?...

I was checking your style sheet links and it seemed like every one was in each type, screen, handheld, print...

They should only be checked as the type they are, like print would have very little styling because you don't/shouldn't want to have everything printed...

Huhh...

The Rockstar site,(I'm focusing on that site for now so I can get it working to bring over to Xtreme) the CSS's only have "screen" or "none" ticked, but my Main layout Template does have "Hand Held", "Print" and "Accessibility and Crossover" attached, which I think is necessary for iPhones and if someone wants to print out an article (Don't ask why) or directions.

The other site did have all media ticked for the main CSS, but I unticked it, and that didn't do anything different from what I can see.

BTW: Currently, I'm at home without IE6 or IE7 to check differences... all I have is FF and Safari... when I go back to work tomorrow and see IE6 and IE7, I'm sure it'll be interesting.

Me again...and been awhile  (Directed at Mark cuz your the wiz when it comes to CSS, but anyone else's help would be greatly appreciated) but I'm still having some CSS issues, and I'm not exactly sure how to tackle this issue.

First, it seems I have no choice but leave the Default CSS ticked/checked in the Album Module to allow the Thickbox to work. Without it, there is no Thickbox, and the image shows up buried under my pages... this is after I copied the Default CSS to my own created CSS for Album.

Second, are the Symptoms in the Thumbs.
In Firefox3 on Mac/PC and IE7: On Hover, The "frame" (looks like an old slide which is cool for now) around the image stays white with maybe a 10px light blueish green bar to the left. (not what I want)

In Safari 3 and IE6, On Hover, the entire frame turns dark blue with the 10px light blueish green bar to the left of the image... a little closer to what I want... but not quite. From what I can tell, it's some conflict with my standard text link hover CSS in my layout CSS.

Any ideas how to resolve this so it works right across both platforms? I want the hover to cover the entire "slide" frame with the lightish blue-green color.

P.S.: (off topic) Kudos to the peeps that came up with the "support info" thing... works like a charm so far

Hi Bob, you cannot expect CSS to do it stuff on invalid code. Get the HTML to validate first ;-)

Having said that I noticed a few problems with the Album CSS or more likely the Thickbox implementation of it. Not sure why, as a I don't use it, but getting the pages to validate and then we can have a look.

Yeah, I agree...not such a good validation. OK, I got most of the bad code out of there. Particularly in relaion to the Album Template.
All I have left for errors are Flash related, and I don't feel like messing with all that... it's the banner rotators I have and issues with the tags which XHTML doesn't like so much I guess (for another day)

Thanks again!
