Fatal Error On Install/Upgrade/Refresh

Post by govicinity »

CMS Made Simple™ 2.2.3.1 “Happy Adventure”

Basically looking for some advice, I have been working with CMSMS for years and never come up against a problem like this.

I have just gone live witha website, it's all working fine, except Microtiny and TinyMCE have no WYSIWYG on them and they look like plain text/html.

So I though, I know what'll fix that, let's do a refresh of the CMS. So I uploaded the files and went to http://www.mydomain.com/cmsms/ to do the refresh install function, and I got this back:

Fatal Error
unable to write file /var/lib/php/session/m74dd0786a6b77dc7f1270c1b7098ebbc/templates_c/wrt59cceddd549bb

So I have now tried changing the PHP versions to PHP 5.5 and 5.6 and I'm getting exactly the same message. All permisions are set to 755 for the directories and 644 for the files.

I tried just to see what would happen to install CMSMS in another folder within the http://www.mydomain.com/cmsms/... so like this: http://www.mydomain.com/cmsms/subfolder/

And oddly I was able to then install the system within http://www.mydomain.com/cmsms/, but I could not see above the /cmsms/ directory to put it directly in to the http://www.mydomain.com URL, very odd.
Going up, woop, woop.

I don't know the answer to your later issues, but your first one....

...is sometimes solved with a full browser cache clear (getting rid of cached files on your local system). Assuming you have My Preferences > My Account > User Preferences > Select WYSIWYG to use set, of course.

Hi Paul, thanks for the help and reply, yeah, unfortunaltey I did all that already, and in the end manually emptied the TMP folder of templates and CSS cached files too. I have both Microtiny and TinyMCE installed, but turning them off and on does nothing.

TBH I think it's a hosting permissions issue, the other 40 or so CMSMS websites we have running are 100% OK, weird.

So what I did in the end was install the website into a test subfolder in the web root i.e. web/test/cmsinstalledhere, this worked perfectly where the web/tryingtoinstallhere didn't.

I then renamed the web/ folder so there was no live web/ folder at all, but only webold/ ... I then created a new web folder and then copied everything from the now named webold/test/cmsinstalledhere into it putting everything from webold/test/ into the new web/ root directory... a very fiddly workaround but after I made sure the config was set up correctly all is working fine.

To anyone else who has this problem with their website (and I cincerely hope you don't) this is an acceptable (long-winded) workaround... and this is obviously not a CMSMS system issue, it's something else with the server, but I thought I'd post anyway, if it can help one person then it's worth it.
