CGFeedback Comments end up on different pages to where made

Post by Andrew Prior »

My problem is that CGFeedback frequently places the incorrect URL and comment_id number of a comment into the database table "cms_module_cgfeedback_comments", which means that the comment shows up on the wrong page.

This sometimes happens with original comments by a reader, and often happens with my replies, even if the original comment has been published onto the correct page.

In the "cms_module_cgfeedback_comments" table there are two fields which I find containing errors:
The field "Key 2" is set to the comment_id number from the cms_content table. If there is an error, this is always an incorrect value.

The field "origurl" picks up the url of the page the person is commenting upon. It can still be incorrect even if the comment ends up on the correct page.

I frequently find that if I reply to a comment, it ends up on a completely different page to the original. Sometimes even the original comment, although appearing on the correct page, has the origurl incorrect and, occasionally there are reader comments where the comment_id is clearly incorrect, given the content of the comment.

The problem seems more frequent if I use Chrome, so I have been using Firefox (for other reasons too) but is now also occurring in Firefox.

I am able to manually correct such errors by going into phpMyAdmin and manually correcting the fields in the table, but of course that depends on me knowing the original page. There are times when I am not sure where the comment was posted.

I am about to embark on a thorough recording of the sequence of events when I use CGFeedback. So far,

I am pretty sure that many of the incorrect entries point to another page I have recently been editing some time before replying to a comment.

The content of some comments leads me to suspect that errors in the origurls of those posts from outside (ie posts from readers as opposed to my replies) may also reflect their recent reading of other pages. (This is only a hunch.)

I would be grateful if anyone can see anything obviously wrong which I am doing.

My installation of CGFeedback is at the base of normal content pages:
I call it through this:

Code: Select all

{global_content name='FeedbackForms'}
The global_content block is:

Code: Select all

{CGFeedback action='summary' sortorder="ASC"}
Would you like to comment?
<__script__ type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.4/jquery.min.js"></__script>
<__script__ type="text/javascript">//
function toggleDiv(divId) {
 $("#"+divId).toggle();
}
// </__script>
Click to add Feedback

{CGFeedback}

There are around 900 comments.
