CMSContentManager filter/sort content by creation date

is there any way to show the creation date in the content manager overview and sort or filter by date?

Not at the moment. You may wish to consider making two separate feature requests - one for a column to show date, and another for column sorting.

I think column sorting in Content Manager would be a fairly complex change, as currently the hierarchy is defined by how they're displayed. Doesn't hurt to ask though.
