Is there anyway to see what a module looks like or does BEFORE installing it? Sure isn't simple to figure out what module I need to install!

Not really. Some module authors may have a demo page but it won't show you the backend.

It doesn't take long to install a module to test, but you can also post your requirements here and I'm sure people can give you suggestions on which would be the best.
