uploads mode being odd in Front End File Manager

I am tryign to get the upload form to show. Trying to flip the mode into upload (as shown below) is just getting me the list of files in the directory. It's been a long day, so i am probably doing somethign dumnb - but could someone tell me what I am missing?

Code being used: {cms_module module="Uploads" category="basic-test-project" mode="upload"}

As in the feu module? So needs to be logged in...

ah - good point. that demo page showed the code - but actually I have the 'real' page behind an feu login - same problem. It just shows the directory rather than the upload form
