Is the FormBrowser module broken in CMS 2.x?

Post by leoteo »

Dear forum,

we have been using the FormBrowser module in conjunction with the FormBuilder module for some time (latest version 0.4.2).
However, since the upgrade to CMSMS 2.x (currently 2.1.1), the module is broken on my site: opening its page in the admin area results in a Server error 500 page; in the error log I get
016/02/12 00:55:08 [error] 8146#0: *115299 FastCGI sent in stderr: "PHP message: PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function GetDb() on a non-object in /website/modules/FormBrowser/FormBrowser.module.php on line 302" while reading response header from upstream, client: 129.132.208.219, server: ..., request: "GET /admin/moduleinterface.php?mact=FormBrowser,m1_,defaultadmin,0&_sk_=2d547653ad89c710 HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.sock:", host: "...", referrer: ".../admin/moduleinterface.php"
I have two questions concerning this:

1) Is the FormBrowser module incompatible with CMSMS 2.x? I see the module in a few recent system infos posted on the forum, but nobody seems to be complaining(?)

2) As the FormBrowser module was last updated in 2012 and is marked stale, is there a similarly convenient alternative to it that works with CMSMS 2.x?

Best wishes,
leoteo

Modules that have been modified, tested and working on V2 are (generally) tagged with CMSMS-2 and can be seen here:
http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org/project/li ... ed/CMSMS-2

Form Browser does not currently appear on that list.

I don't use that module so can't help with your specifics, I am sure someone else will be able to though.

Not that I know of currently. Soon there will be a disposition to save it in LISE. I don't know how long before that is ready.

A year ago I did a lot of work on the FormBrowser module to get it working for CMSMS 2.x
I do this just because I like to do it, nothing more, nothing less. When I can use the module myself my motivation to go on will be much higher as you will understand. At the moment I don't have use for this module...
But the current state of the SVN will be almost done! It will probably only need testing and some bug fixing.

EDIT, just checked, it needs probably more work then I thought at first...

Dear Paul, Jeff and Rolf,

thank you all for your helpful comments.

@Jeff: Looking forward to when this comes out!

@Rolf: I completely understand. I know some PHP, but I haven't really looked under the hood of CMSMS, so trying to take on and finish your project would probably take me a lot of time. Still, if you ever get to the stage of testing & bug fixing, please let me know and I'll be glad to help!

In the meantime, I guess we will resort to more primitive email- or file-based ways of storing data from form submissions.

Best wishes,
Leopold
