Calendar Event page - selecting parent template

Hi,
The calendar Event template only controls the content area of the page, so how do I set the page template for an event page?
I have a recurring event where I want the event page to include (probably by means of a Global Content Block) a small thumbnail gallery. However, this requires extra javascript libraries to be called in the section of the page, and hence a variant template. (Note that I have no need to include this js on other calendar pages such as lists or upcoming events).
