In admin area: show who is logged in

Post by lone »

I support a couple of sites, that has grown from small sites to large sites that have multiple editors. On these sites it would be very nice to get a hint in the admin, as to who is logged on the admin of the site, at the same time.

Perhaps in the right corner:
Welcome: (username1)
Also logged in: (username2, username3)
If no one else is logged in, the second line is not shown.

Or maybe just:
Logged in: (username1), (username2, username3)

This small detail would make a great difference, in having an idea who is also online at the same time.

-----------------------------------
I know this can be seen in the admin log, but not 'at a glance' and editors dont really want or need to see this.
Optimally a 'lock' mechanism om content would be great, but I guess this is no minor thing, and perhaps outside the scope of CMSMS.

regards, Lone

Why not create a plugin which connects to the admin log database table?

You could then have it search for recent activity in the last 20 mins or so and display the username results.

Then just edit the admin template and add in your plugin by either smarty or include.

Cool, if it can be done as a plugin.
Would be a nice feature out of the box, though :)

Further to this, I think a page should be locked for editing if another user is currently editing it. I've had a few instances where one user was continually overwriting the work of another because they had the same page open simultaneously.

I second all that. And it should get a "right" in the rights mask like "View online status of users".

So users can see who is online and what they are doing - as long as there is no locking mechanism, this would be really helpful.
