Memcache / APC Capabilities

Post by calguy1000 »

Occasionally we receive a bug report or feature request about CMSMS not supporting memcached for caching data in memory vs. in the filesystem. Literally it's very occasional... like maybe 5 times in the last 7 years.

So I am going to put the question out there... as to how many people have the ability to use APC or memcached in their sites... I'll run the poll for 30 days and see what happens.

Is there an easy way to check if my shared host supports any of these features?

it's not the first time i saw you asking technical question about the installation for our cmsmadesimple

should it not be more interesting (for this kind of questions in the future) to have the possibility within the back office of cmsmadesimple to send to you some informations about our installation ?

something that would be automatic and could be stopped at anytime if we want (if fopen/fsocketopen/Curl/... allowed)

I already made this module : OpenStatisticCommunity and and the results here

Today we receive these informations

* the versions of the Cms Made Simple
* the versions of the Modules
* Cmsms Config
php_memory_limit
output_compression
assume_mod_rewrite
internal_pretty_urls
use_hierarchy
* PHP Config
phpversion
memory_limit
safe_mode
* Server Config
server_api
server_db_type
server_db_version
* Network Config
fopen/fsockopen/cUrl/..

hoping i could be useful ;)

I am not a fan of any 'call home' mechanisms in the CMSMS core. Considered this idea before.

And if people don't know what the technology is... or even how to find out if they have that technology on the server, then odds are they won't be using it... which is just as good of an answer.

a module is not always "in the core" (it could be download separately). a module can also be included "by default" but not active, the user must check himself the options to activate the transfert of information.

Again, i think that having some anonymous informations can be very useful for making some choices and even if i'm not a huge fan of sending my personnal data, i must admit as developer that sometime it's a necessity to know how my customer uses my work

I won't go further for this question, it's not the subject of this topic ;)

just a precision it's obviously : but we don't log the ip, name of the website, user or password :D
