So, if I put a captcha on the registration, it's going to be a serious detrement to the blind users out there...

Well, any users that can't see the captcha, can then maybe request personal authentication via email to anybody that has admin access to the forum.  Just an idea.

Ususally we delete them, but I leave them up when I want to make a point.

Not sure if it's a bot or not.  I'd be surprised if it was a person, but you never know.  If any of our blind users out there can give us an opinion, that would be great.



And if this is a person, you need your eyes stabbed.  No 2 pencil is best.

I don´t think that Captcha is the cure. i run a forum with all possible methods to prevent this and they still keep coming. Maybe there will be less spam but you can get rid of it. Some Captcha have an audio function so blind people can here the numbers/letters they need to type.

Instead of captcha's there are other means to find out if it is a bot or human intelligence you are dealing with.

For the sake of argument I posed a solution like this (which is all in plain text so text speech readers can handle it) :

Challenge Question: Who is the president of the USA (Choose one of the four answers) ?

Answers:
1. Donald Duck
2. George W Bush
3. Bon Jovi
4. Madame Toussot

No bot can answer this question as it does not have the knowledge to figure it out, fo any human however this is an easy one keystroke confirmation.

Just make sure you have a nice variety of questions and make sure to have them in multiple languages if you run a multi lingual site.

The questions can even be as simple as: How much is 3 plus 9 or How much "F"'s are found in this fine question ?

Would just need to implement a special de-bot form field type in feedback form, with fields for the question and a choice to have a regular input field or a dropdown with multiple choices (for the more mentally challenged users ).
