Here, CMSMS is running SMF. I'm also looking at phpBB. Any pros/cons between these two? Is there maybe another that I should consider?
Reqs:
- OSS/GPL license.
- Moderated registrations
- PHP or ASP or CFML for the language
- IIS-friendly
- MySQL
Thanks in advance.
Slightly OT: Forum SW comparisons?
Re: Slightly OT: Forum SW comparisons?
just quickly before my morning meeting... but ...
SMF: Seems to be much simpler but without the huge community base behind it.
PHPBB: tons of extensions, community, and stable code... problem... they seem to have an issue with security. (18 updates to there version 2... almost 50 security updates in them).
I personally use phpbb only because i've been using it for years. I like it... just keep up with the updates otherwise you'll be looking at a hacked forum.

Re: Slightly OT: Forum SW comparisons?
I personally like SMF better for 2 reasons.
1. It seems to have less security issues
2. It's MUCH easier to upgrade. Just click and go. Updating phpbb (which is pretty often) is usually a pain, especially if you've made any changes to any files.

Re: Slightly OT: Forum SW comparisons?
I'm a huge fan of punBB. Clean code, actively being developed, and very lite. There are community created modules to substitute for most of the features that may be lacking in the base install.

I'm a fan of SMF and the latest vBulletin ($$$$) releases.
