Announcing CMS Made Simple 2.0-beta3

Post by calguy1000 »

Today, after a great deal of effort in development and testing, we are pleased to announce the third—and hopefully final—beta of CMS Made Simple 2.0.

Again, we would like to thank the many people that donated their time to testing and re-testing beta 2. Dozens of people have donated considerable amounts of effort towards making the 2.0 series of CMSMS stable and robust. Thanks to the efforts of everybody, we now think that CMSMS 2.0 is nearing production level stability.

Many of the improvements in this beta revolve around ensuring that a majority of users can use the phar based installer, making the 2.0 series stable, and migrating the fixes from the 1.11.x release.

If you are a module developer please ensure to test your modules for compatibility with CMSMS 2.0. The following features in particular may need to be updated in your modules:
- Creating and registering content types
- Creating ad manipulating page templates or stylesheets
- WYSIWYG editors or syntax hilighters

If you are a translator, please ensure that you complete translations for all of the core packages.

Again, we recommend that people, wherever possible, use the PHAR based installation assistant. Be sure that you read the README-PHAR.TXT file that is included in the distribution package. This installer is by far the simplest, and most reliable method to install, upgrade, or freshen a CMS Made Simple installation.

If the PHAR installer will not work, an un-pharred installation assistant is distributed. It must be expanded in a directory that is NOT the CMSMS installation directory. Detailed instructions are in the README.TXT file that is included in the distributed package.

We expect that beta3 will run for a few months yet. Please keep testing. Your assistance is critical to generating a stable, working Content Management System.
